Guided ManoYatra tool

The CBT Cycle

The CBT cycle is a model that links four parts of any difficult moment — the situation, the thought it triggered, the feeling that followed, and what you did next — and shows that each one influences the others in both directions.

A moment this can meet

When The CBT Cycle may fit

A colleague walks past your desk without saying hello. By lunchtime you've skipped the team's chai break, and you're not entirely sure how you got from one to the other. Somewhere in between there was a thought — maybe "they're upset with me" — and a sinking feeling, and a decision to keep your head down. It all happened as one blur. The cycle is a way to un-blur it.

How it works

In this guided tool you take one recent rough moment and map it across all four parts, in your own words. Most people find they have been combining the situation and their reaction to it into the same thing. Seeing them separated is what makes the loop visible — and a visible loop is one you can enter at a different point next time: at the thought, or at the action, even when the situation itself won't move.

People may choose this for

  • A reaction that felt bigger than the moment deserved
  • Understanding a recurring pattern — same trigger, same spiral
  • A first structured look at your own thinking (good first tool in the catalog)
  • Preparing to use reframing or action tools with more precision
