Self-Forgiveness

Self-forgiveness is a structured process for responding to something you did that you regret: acknowledging responsibility, expressing remorse, making repair where possible, and then releasing the self-punishment that no longer serves anyone.

How it works

The order matters and the tool holds it. Skipping to release produces something closer to excuse-making, which does not hold. Working through responsibility and repair first is what makes the last step legitimate. The tool is for real regret rather than diffuse guilt, and it does not ask you to conclude that what happened was fine.

Grounded in

the self-forgiveness models of Robert Enright and of Hall and Fincham.
