Self Compassion

The self-compassion break is a short three-part practice for a difficult moment: acknowledging that it is hard, recognising that difficulty is part of common human experience, and asking what you need right now.

How it works

The middle step does most of the work. Difficulty tends to arrive with a sense of being uniquely bad at something, and the reminder that this is a shared human condition rather than a personal failing is what loosens it. At four minutes it is short enough to use inside a bad afternoon rather than after it.
