Positive Intentions Meditation

Loving-kindness meditation, or metta, is a practice of silently repeating simple well-wishing phrases directed in turn at yourself, someone close, a neutral person, and someone you find difficult.

How it works

The order is deliberate and the difficult person comes last for a reason. Many people find the first step — directing it at themselves — the hardest, which is itself informative. The phrases are simple and repeated; the practice is not about generating a feeling on demand but about the direction of attention.
